Mount Laurel Township School District is a Public School District governed by a nine-member Board of Education. Members of the board set the goals and establish the policies for the district. They adopt the annual budget, make decisions on a wide range of educational concerns and serve as a communications link between the schools and the community. Board members are not responsible for the day-to-day operation of the schools. They rely upon the Superintendent of Schools for operational decisions and initiatives.

To many, our schools constitute Mount Laurel's "town center". The activities hosted at our schools, very often sponsored by active parent groups, bring families together while children are at an early age and forge lifelong friendships. The district has a long history of support within the community for its exceptional academic program and student success rate. Seven Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTOs) work diligently to raise funds throughout the year to augment programs, and an educational foundation, the Mount Laurel Public Education Fund Inc., also assists the district financially. In an effort to educate "the whole child," Mount Laurel Schools place great value on community commitment. Entire school populations participate in many fund-raising campaigns for local and national causes each year.

Mount Laurel Township is strategically located in one of the fastest growing areas of the Greater Philadelphia Region. It is the fourth largest municipality in Burlington County, New Jersey with convenient access to major thoroughfares and public transportation to Philadelphia and New York City. Mount Laurel was named by Hannah Gillingham, a teacher in the Friends Meeting House School in the mid-1800's. She admired the laurel growing in profusion on the Mount outside the school and suggested the name Mount Laurel, which became official with the opening of the first post office on January 13, 1849.
